If get a scholarship can u spend some of it's money,or how does it work?

For example say I get a scholarship for a 1000 and I wanna keep 200 hundred is that possibly,or can choose to give wat u want out of the scholarship money they give u or no?and when u get them do they come in checks or cash how does that work also cause I have applied!
